Compiled over 16 months in consultation with educators in several school districts, the guide was designed to assist teachers of all subjects and grades to integrate environmental concepts into teaching and learning.

Workshop 2: Writing About a Sense of Place

For thousands of years, knowledge of and deep connections to the Earth have guided people to survive and care for their lands all around the world. Today, in our western world, we need to find a way to share stories of what our sense of place and home means to us so we can care for where we live. We will talk about how to re-story your sense of home and learn to write about our sense of connection to land and place.

Presenter: Luanne Armstrong is a novelist, editor, and teacher and the author of fourteen books.

Workshop 3: Gardens at School – Why, some How-to’s and what to do when you’ve got one!

Are you interested in establishing a garden on your school grounds (food or otherwise)? Come and learn about curriculum ties with a school garden and your classroom. Students of all ages really benefit from hands on digging in the dirt experiences. We’ll discuss steps for getting a garden started at your school, look at lots of fun activities for all ages, and list some potential funding sources to help you on your way.

Presenters: Alison Burton is a Plant Scientist with a deep love for all things green.

Lisa Costain is the Manager of the Beehive after school program at Marysville School and facilitates the Beyond Recycling program in Kimberley.
