Gerry has an academic background in Cultural Anthropology and post graduate training in Environmental Management, he is a journeyman carpenter, experiential educator and has designed and implemented a number of training and skills development programs. At this time he is working as a Fisheries Technologist throughout the upper Basin. He has been interested in aquatic ecosystem health his whole life and dedicated many volunteer hours to research, restoration, monitoring and education to extend that interest.

The Salmo Watershed Streamkeepers Society (SWSS) is a skilled and motivated community supported group that has been recognized locally, provincially and national for their proactive approach. SWSS has worked hard to develop a provincially and federally approved Watershed-based Fish Sustainability Plan to guide their advances toward increased aquatic ecosystem health. SWSS has always been a partnership driven group that realizes the strengths of involving all. They also have found that research, restoration and monitoring are not enough to ensure a healthy environment. Early on in their history they started \"The River Speaks\" a multi-faceted awareness campaign to bring the stories of the River to the folks in their watershed and beyond.
