Vision and Goals

CBEENThe Columbia Basin Environmental Education Network has the following Vision and Goals to guide their activities:

Our Vision

People in the Canadian Columbia Basin:

  • Are knowledgeable, appreciative and involved in environmental stewardship;
  • See themselves as part of their environment;
  • Respect and value the natural environment;
  • Engage in and encourage responsible and sustainable human activities.

Our Goals

  • To be proactive in environmental education in the Basin.
  • Increase collaboration and cooperation amongst education organizations, such as schools, post-secondary institutions, and community groups within the Basin.
  • Increase the access and sharing of resources to Basin communities and environmental educators.
  • Increase inclusion of environmental perspectives within existing planning frameworks in the Basin, such as resource planning, community planning and Ministry of Education curriculum.
  • Involve a diversity of citizens, including youth, seniors, industry, and politicians in environmental education.
  • Recognize and support Basin environmental educators.

CBEENTo achieve these goals, three priority areas were identified by CBEEN. They include information sharing for educators, capacity building for educators, and On-the-ground environmental education projects, such as a Basin-wide water education program. To promote these focus areas, a Subcommittee was developed for each program.
