Kit Resources

To match the break down of Lesson Plans into Primary, Intermediate and Senior, the supporting resources and materials have likewise been separated into three main kits. There are certain resources which at this time are only available one per District:

  • 3-D model of the BC portion of the Columbia Basin (all grades)
  • 10’ X 10’ surround map (whole basin) to go with the model
  • Columbia Basin ‘Twister’ Game (Primary and Intermediate ‘Extension’ activity for lessons 3, 6 & 12)

Alternative resources are suggested for most of the above in the event that you are unable to obtain them from your DRC. The 3-D model and surround map provide their greatest added value for the What is a Watershed ? lessons for Primary and Intermediate classes (Lessons 6, 11 & 17). Other lessons which call for it to a lesser degree are: 1, 3, 12, 13, 18, 22, 25, 27, 29 and 30.

A satellite image overhead of the Basin is one substitute which is quite useful for showing how the topography and water systems interconnect. Simple black-line overhead maps are also available, showing the major waterways and communities.

Each kit is contained in a plastic bin and has been designed to be as compact and easy to handle as possible. Certain elements within the kits are used with water and you are asked to please ensure that all such items are completely dry before they are packed back in the bin. Plastic protection bags are provided for all printed material.
